Above Board Pros is a family business. We live in the Midwest, we hire in the Midwest, and we built this platform at our own kitchen table, without venture money, because the big contractor directories stopped working for the people we know.
We watched neighbors call around for weeks to get two bids on the same job. So we built the simple version: describe the project once, hear from up to 4 home improvement companies, and see what we checked on the pros we list.
We grow the way a family business grows: one market at a time, 23 metro areas so far across the Midwest and South, from Kansas City to Columbus. When we open a new market, it is because we can screen it properly, not because a growth chart said so.

For the pros we list, we run a few automated checks against public records, and each listing shows what we checked and when. Some requests also go to a national partner network. We do not screen those companies. The full detail is in our listing guidelines.

Every listing shows the checks we have results for, with the date of the last check where we have one. For any pro you did not find in our listings, run your own checks before you sign. Ask for the state registration number, ask for a current certificate of insurance, and look the contractor up in your state's official records.
